Clean Out: Social Media Feeds, Wardrobe, & Your Office

If there were ever a year for a major clean out, 2020 would be it. When done correctly, a good clean out feels like the ultimate refresh. There are probably areas that come to the top of your mind as you’re reading this. Office work space, your bag, master bedroom, or your wardrobe. Those are qualified options. Let’s look beyond that for a minute. What about the last time you took a look at how you spend your time everyday or who you’re following on social media? Your social life could also need some TLC. Check out my easy tips below on how and what to clean leaving you feel like you’re at least on top of one thing right now.

One | Social Life

There has never been a better time to take a step back and check your group of friends. You may start doing this while in college, but it becomes essential once you graduate. You will always have things going on, stress from work, or you might not live near someone. With the right person, none of that matters. The person makes time for you and makes it worth your time to connect with them whether it’s digital or in person. Think of how a good vacation or weekend trip makes you feel, that is exactly how your friends should make you feel.

Two | Social Media Feeds

Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, the list goes on. Before you know it, you spend endless minutes scrolling and looking at different accounts. On New Year’s Day, I wanted a change and hit refresh, so I cleaned out who I was following. I removed people that I didn’t enjoy what they were posting and thought about what I wanted to see more of on my feed. Ever since then, I now find myself doing that action at random. It is the best feeling. I love social media and know how much value I can get out of it if I am following the right accounts. This can be for personal or business modes. Trust me, try it and you will notice the biggest difference.

Three | Wardrobe

Whether you’re about to move or just want to have everything fit better in your closet, this might be one of the most important areas to clean. An easy rule of thumb: if you haven’t worn it recently or wouldn’t buy it full price now, it needs to go. You should feel confident and fulfilled with every piece that is in your wardrobe. Stains, rips, stretched out, or not the right size, take it out. Find a system that works for you when you are organizing. My wardrobe is organized by 2 systems: color and style. The color makes it effortless and the latter system allows me to keep my work wear staples separate from my athleisure or casual pieces. When you go to buy something new, there are 2 ways to know if you need it or not: ask yourself if you are trying to justify the purchase and are you trying to convince yourself rather than just knowing that you should buy it.

Four | Office

The space where everything gets done. Business calls, work on your computer, notes, projects. This is a space that can be motivating and inspiring if done right. You no longer have to have your own business to work from home and be remote. When done well, you can separate work from home in a way that allows you to be the best version of yourself during 8-5. Start small by keeping the desk clean and organized. Utilize any folders, drawers, or file holders for loose papers or important ones you don’t want to lose. Create an interior design in the space that makes you want to work. Always pack up for the day when you’re done and keep everything that is work related in one spot rather than all over the house or apartment.
